  • “That’s from a company blog, so it’s marketing.”

    “It might be. Are the numbers wrong?”

    Biased sources produce true statements all the time. Check the claim.

Origin is a reason to check carefully, not a reason to conclude. A tainted source can still be right, and a trusted one can still be wrong.

The legitimate version: when you can’t verify a claim yourself, source reliability is most of what you have, and weighting by it is sensible. The fallacy is using origin to settle a question you could have checked directly.
