You can’t imagine how it works. The universe is not obliged to fit in your head.

  • “I can’t see how that scales, so it won’t.”

    “Let’s look at how it’s meant to scale.”

    Your inability to picture the mechanism isn’t evidence there isn’t one.

Plenty of true things are deeply unintuitive—quantum mechanics, evolution, most statistics. Difficulty of imagining is a measure of familiarity, not of truth.

The legitimate version: if someone can’t explain how their thing works when they should be able to, that’s a fair reason for suspicion. The problem is treating your own confusion as their refutation.
