The messenger’s record doesn’t alter the message’s accuracy.
Also whataboutism. It’s a specific ad hominem: pointing at inconsistency between what someone does and what they say, and treating that as a refutation. It isn’t one. A doctor who smokes is still right that smoking kills.
The legitimate version: hypocrisy is genuinely relevant to whether someone should be trusted or put in charge. It’s just not relevant to whether their claim is true.
