You found the data that agreed with you and stopped looking.

  • Wrong: “Three reviews say it’s great.”

    Right: “What do all the reviews say?”

    Three positives out of four hundred is a very different claim.

Every dataset large enough contains a subset supporting almost anything. Picking that subset feels like research and produces the opposite of it.

How to answer it: ask what the full picture looks like, and what was excluded. The excluded material is usually where the answer is.
